Shanghai, – McLaren’s Oscar Piastri clinched the first official pole position of his Formula One career at the Chinese Grand Prix, setting the fastest-ever lap at the Shanghai International Circuit. The Australian clocked an impressive 1:30.641, securing the top spot for Sunday’s race.
Mercedes’ George Russell put in a strong final lap of 1:30.723 to claim second place, joining Piastri on the front row. Meanwhile, McLaren teammate and championship leader Lando Norris, who won the season opener in Australia, abandoned his final lap while Piastri improved, leaving him in third. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, a dominant force this season, will start from fourth.
With McLaren showing strong pace, Piastri will now aim to convert his pole into a race victory in what promises to be an intense battle at the Shanghai circuit.
