Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has approved a ₹1,237.71 crore project for the strengthening and widening of key highways in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts of Rajasthan. The project covers a total length of 134.86 km and aims to enhance both strategic and regional connectivity.
The approved project includes:
• Strengthening and widening of the Myajalar-Jaisalmer section of NH-11.
• Expansion of the Sundra-Myajalar-Ambasingh Ki Dhani Road section on the Munabao-Tanot route.
The new alignment will establish connectivity with NH-25 and NH-68, while also linking to NH-70, significantly improving the regional transport network.
Strategic and Economic Importance
• The project is crucial for national security, as it is located near the international border, ensuring faster movement of security forces to border areas.
• It will boost tourism by improving access to Khuri sand dunes, a popular tourist attraction.
• Several villages along the route will benefit from better connectivity, enhancing economic growth and local development.
This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of strengthening India’s highway infrastructure while also supporting national security and economic progress in Rajasthan.
