President Trump has signed a new executive order aimed at enhancing the safety, cleanliness, and beauty of the nation’s capital. The “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful” order outlines a comprehensive plan to combat crime, restore public spaces, and preserve Washington, D.C.’s monuments, parks, and historic sites.
Fighting Crime and Enhancing Public Safety
The executive order establishes the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force, which will coordinate federal, state, and local efforts to reduce crime and improve public safety. The Task Force, led by the Assistant to the President and Homeland Security Advisor, will include representatives from key agencies such as the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
The initiative will focus on:
• Cracking down on violent crime, drug activity, and vandalism in high-traffic areas.
• Strengthening immigration enforcement to remove undocumented individuals with criminal records.
• Supporting the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) with resources for recruitment, retention, and crime-fighting technology.
• Ending fare evasion and crime on public transit systems.
• Deploying additional federal law enforcement officers to high-risk areas, including the National Mall, Union Station, and Rock Creek Park.
“Our capital city should be a place where every American—resident or visitor—feels safe at all times,” the President stated. “This initiative will restore law and order while upholding Washington, D.C.’s status as a global symbol of freedom and democracy.”
Beautifying and Restoring Washington, D.C.
The executive order also directs the Secretary of the Interior to implement a beautification program for federal and local landmarks, parks, and roads. The plan includes:
• Restoring and preserving national monuments, memorials, and statues that have been vandalized or defaced.
• Cleaning public spaces, removing graffiti, and improving landscaping around federal buildings.
• Enhancing the aesthetic appeal of highways, boulevards, and transit stations.
• Encouraging private-sector participation in beautification efforts.
• Clearing homeless encampments and ensuring proper relocation efforts to maintain public safety and cleanliness.
The National Park Service has been directed to immediately remove graffiti and unauthorized encampments from federally managed land in the District.
“Washington, D.C. is the heart of our nation,” said the Secretary of the Interior. “This plan ensures that our capital reflects the strength, beauty, and history of the United States.”
A Bold Step Toward a Safer, More Beautiful Capital
With this executive order, the administration aims to restore Washington, D.C. as a model of civic pride, safety, and historical preservation. The new policies align with the President’s broader efforts to promote law and order, economic growth, and national unity as the country prepares for America’s 250th birthday celebration in 2026.
This initiative marks a significant federal commitment to making the nation’s capital a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming place for all Americans.
