New Delhi, May 10, 2025 — In a strong statement reflecting India’s concerns over recent airspace activities, Colonel Sophia Qureshi today condemned Pakistan’s alleged misuse of international air routes to conceal military maneuvers under the guise of civilian aircraft operations.
“It is a matter of concern that, taking the cover of civilian aircraft taking off from Lahore, Pakistan misused international air routes so that they can hide their activities,” said Colonel Qureshi. “Such tactics compelled the Indian air defence system to act with great patience while ensuring civilian security.”
The statement comes amidst heightened regional vigilance and temporary suspensions of several civilian flight operations in northern and western India. Defense officials have reportedly observed increased activity near Indian airspace, prompting enhanced monitoring by Indian air defence units.
Colonel Qureshi praised the Indian armed forces for their restraint and professionalism in handling the situation without endangering civilian lives. “Our systems are alert, and while we prioritize national security, the safety of civilians remains paramount,” she added.
The incident has raised fresh questions over airspace protocols and the potential risks posed by misuse of civil aviation corridors during sensitive periods.
India has called for strict adherence to international aviation norms and may raise the issue at appropriate diplomatic and regulatory platforms.
