Elon Musk announced that Grok 5, the next-generation AI model from his company xAI, will begin training in the coming weeks.
The announcement comes as Grok 4 is already featured on the ARC-AGI Leaderboard, a benchmark that tracks progress toward artificial general intelligence (AGI). Grok 4, in its “Thinking” mode, currently holds a competitive position among other frontier AI models such as GPT-5, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Claude Opus 4, and OpenAI’s o-series models.
With Grok 5, Musk is aiming to significantly boost performance and efficiency, potentially moving closer to the ARC Prize Grand Prize threshold — a marker of AGI-level reasoning ability.
Industry watchers note that Grok’s rapid iteration highlights xAI’s ambition to challenge the dominance of other AI labs, particularly OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind.
