The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has launched the ‘One Nation One Port Process (ONOP)’ initiative to standardize and streamline port processes and documentation across all major ports in India. The initiative aims to enhance efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and improve trade competitiveness.
As part of ONOP, a comprehensive review has been conducted to assess existing port procedures and documentation for various cargo types, including containers, dry bulk, and liquid bulk, covering movement categories such as export-import, transshipment, and coastal operations.
Key Features of ONOP:
• Digitization and automation of port processes through the National Logistics Portal – Marine (NLP-Marine).
• Integration of Enterprise Business System (EBS) as the port operating system.
• Reduction in processing time for documentation, leading to lower logistics costs.
• Review of major ports shows significant improvements in efficiency due to ONOP implementation.
Additionally, the government has prioritized port modernization, including:
• Development of new ports, terminals, and berths.
• Mechanization and digitalization of port operations.
• Enhancing road and rail connectivity to ports.
To further strengthen the competitiveness of Indian ports in the global maritime sector, the Ministry has also introduced the “Sagar Aankalan” guidelines.
