Acting on recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Government of India has banned several Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly spreading provocative, communally sensitive content, and disseminating false and misleading narratives against India, its Army, and security agencies.
The decision comes in the wake of heightened concerns over online disinformation campaigns targeting national security and social harmony. According to official sources, the banned channels were engaged in systematic efforts to promote divisive content aimed at disturbing public order and undermining trust in Indian institutions.
“The action was necessary to curb the spread of harmful propaganda that could incite unrest and threaten the country’s internal security,” a senior government official said. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry executed the ban orders under the provisions of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules.
The government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the digital information space and taking strict action against entities attempting to weaponize social media platforms against India’s interests.
Further investigations are underway to identify and act against additional online sources engaged in similar activities.
