ICYMI: President Trump’s Steel Tariffs Are Fueling an American Manufacturing Comeback

Date:

WASHINGTON, D.C.

In case you missed it, President Donald J. Trump’s decision to reimpose tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum imports is being hailed as a major victory for American workers and domestic manufacturing.

Echoing the economic policies of his first term, President Trump’s latest trade action is designed to protect U.S. industries from unfair foreign competition—particularly from nations like China that heavily subsidize their exports. The tariffs aim to level the playing field for American producers and revive industrial job growth in key manufacturing states.

Drew Greenblatt, CEO of Marlin Steel Wire Products, a Baltimore-based manufacturing company, voiced strong support for the move during a recent appearance on CBS Morning News.

“We’re in favor of the tariffs because we make everything in America. Our factories are in Baltimore, Indiana, and Michigan. We use American steel and American workers,” Greenblatt said. “Our challenge is that we’re competing against governments, like the Chinese government. If we have a fair and level playing field, our American factory workers will thrive and prosper. We can really pull people from poverty, bring them into the middle class.”

Marlin Steel, which produces custom wire and sheet metal products for a range of industries, is one of many American manufacturers that say the tariffs give them a fighting chance against low-cost, subsidized imports.

Supporters argue that the tariffs don’t just benefit the steel industry—they protect entire supply chains and communities that depend on manufacturing. The Trump administration maintains that these measures are critical to safeguarding national security, economic independence, and middle-class prosperity.

As the debate over tariffs continues, President Trump remains steadfast in his belief: “When America builds, America wins.”
