BIG NEWS : Cyclone Fengal, which arose from the Bay of Bengal on November 25, hit the coast between Karaikal in Puducherry and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu at 7:30 pm on November 30. The landfall process continued till 11.30 pm. During this time, winds blew at a speed of 90 km per hour along with heavy rain. The impact of the cyclone is also felt in Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
According to IMD, Fengal is stuck here after landfall on November 30, but it will gradually weaken in a few hours. Due to this, heavy rains have been predicted in Puducherry, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chennai on Sunday. Puducherry received 48.4 cm of rain during 24 hours. This is the highest rainfall in a day in 30 years.
Due to the storm, Chennai airport was closed at 12 noon, which resumed at 1 am. Flights resumed after midnight, but many flights were cancelled. Some arrived late. 24 domestic flights were cancelled due to the storm. 26 international flights were delayed.
A video of Chennai airport has surfaced, in which IndiGo flight got caught in cross wind and started swaying during landing. The pilot flew the plane back. No official statement has been issued by IndiGo regarding the incident.
